Soda drinkers are known to consume diets higher in calories, saturated fats and Trans fats. Based almost entirely on animal research, the studies suggesting diet sodas or anything containing sugar substitutes can contribute to weight gain. A study published in the Journal Behavioral Neuroscience found the following year that rats that ate the artificial sweetener saccharin gained more weight than rats that are sugar.
Even the science is not decisive, the same mechanism may occur in people too. This research in rats clearly shows that consuming foods sweetened with a non-calorie sweetener can lead to greater weight gain and fat accumulation than would consuming the same food sweetened with high-calorie sugar.
Assumed that extra refined carbs and calories you get from drinking non-diet sodas can increase your risks for obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic disease. Found by research that was sponsored by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute examined more than 2,400 residents of Framingham, Mass., that those who drank at least one can of soda per day were 48% more likely to have metabolic syndrome than their neighbors who abstained from soda.
So what is metabolic syndrome?
Metabolic syndrome is a combination of three or more of the following medical conditions that places one at risk for diabetes and heart disease.
